Many years of my family going to the state fair. So many great memories. Scary rides. The food is great. The concerts are amazing. The shows are fun and the people are so cool to meet. Last year we went to see a concert 1st in over 10yrs for me. And I had a blast. Everyone was beyond friendly & helpful from ticket takers to the people showing you where to park. Even as we were leaving several attendants in the lot asked if we had fun and said thanks. Well put together State Fair that made my return to it after 30 some years VERY memorable. I love the Ohio State Fair but the Alaska State had a better atmosphere IMHO and seemed much more relaxing. Even after walking it for 12 hours!! Lots to see, eat, and do!! Biggest fair in the State of Alaska located 50 miles or so from Anchorage in Palmer Alaska. Fun amusement rides and lots of fair food throughout the grounds. Very hard to decide which booth has my favorite food. Wandering minstrels and lots of booths to find new treasures or learn new skills. Hundreds and hundreds of entries in exhibitions. The enormous vegetables entered in competition each year just seem to get bigger and bigger. The giant vegetables are donated to the bears, musk ox and moose in the Wildlife farm in Turnagain. The carrots zucchinis and other vegetables are donated to local food charities to make soup. My first time at the Fair. Great fun!! People were very friendly. I recommend avoiding the crazy traffic and just take the train. It leaves from the Anchorage train depot and stops right at the side entrance to the fair. Could not have been more relaxing and stress free. The Doobie Brothers were Awesome as well!! Fair was great. Medium amount of vendors compared to other state fairs we've been to however the Rodeo was super expensive when you factor in additional gate admission. All other rodeo fairs we've attended have included gate admission. Avoid family day and weekends. Wear comfortable footwear and take a rain jacket.
